  Oswin was a victim of the April 7, 1900 catastrophic dam break that came about after a couple days of rain that put pressure on the MacDonald Dam it couldn't handle. The flooding from the storm combined with the dam break was tremendous. According to reports I've read Oswin, in a nutshell, and his horse and buggy, were swept off the dike that crossed the river and was near the Bouldin Creek bridge and the Congress Ave. bridge. He happened upon a pole and was safe until a house caught in the torrent hit the pole. He was found about 7 days later in debris along the river in Webberville and was interred on a man's farm. His parents sent friends to get him so he was disinterred and identified by a friend based on a patch on a shoe. He was promptly interred at Oakwood Cemetery.
