He was born about 1804, probably in Franklin County, Georgia, and lived most of his life in Forsyth County, Georgia. He married Nancy Baker. He died in 1875 in Faulkner County, Arkansas, and is possibly buried in Sharon Cemetery near the Naylor community. Some researchers erroneously believe his middle name was Dixon because of incorrect info in his son Robert Dixon's 1911 Confederate Veterans' Questionaire. In several other records Robert's middle initial is consistently "H". Plus, Robert already had an older brother named Dixon so it is unlikely that his parents would have named two children using that name.
